Embracing Change in the AI Era
I’m a designer who’s spent decades pushing pixels and crafting experiences. Today, embracing AI is helping me to produce the best work of my career and I’m doing it faster and with more creative freedom than ever before.
I will never forget the feeling of watching Mid Journey create images from my prompts. Immediately, I knew everything was about to change.
Not in the “robots are coming for our jobs” way that currently fills design blogs and LinkedIn posts. No – I saw something different: a door swinging open to possibilities I’d never imagined.
The secret? I stopped seeing AI as my replacement and started seeing it as my collaborator.
“I am Limited ONLY by my Imagination.”
That’s not just a catchy phrase – it’s a direct quote, take from me and it’s become my daily mantra. Rarely does a day go by that I don’t learn something new, much of it centered around my work as a designer.
I wonder how many of you were there in the beginning? Running prompts as fast as you could, because around every corner was another surprise.
I’ve decided to share what I’ve learned, and what happens after that…. I hope you will find some value in it.
This is a gallery of images from my early experiments with Mid Journey. There is something about the images from the early days that I really like. To me, it feels like something was lost as the models got better. Some of these images feel like folk art compared to the incredibly realistic images coming out of the AI models now.
It didn’t take long for the updates to start rolling in and with them, noticeable improvements in the quality of images produced by the LLMs. The changes in prompting is a topic that I don’t hear talked about much. The early days were such a wild crap shoot.
The best I could hope for was creating an image in the style of “insert artistic style name.” Which made my education in art history incredibly useful all of a sudden. Let’s try that in Fauvism!
